RMCAD Announces fall VASD lecture series
ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGE OF ART + DESIGN ANNOUNCES FALL SCHEDULE OF PUBLIC LECTURE SERIES
Visiting Artist, Scholar, and Designer Program Series features lectures and performances exploring “The Senses”
DENVER, Colo. – Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design (RMCAD) is pleased to announce the fall schedule for its yearlong Visiting Artist, Scholar, and Designer (VASD) Program series that will explore a variety of perspectives on the extraordinary aspects of the most common element of our humanity: the senses. These public lectures and performances will bring nationally renowned artistic and scientific talent to the Denver area.
“Our senses constantly influence our interactions and knowledge of the world and of ourselves,” said VASD Program Director, Gretchen Marie Schaefer. “We’re intrigued to learn how contemporary artists, scholars, and designers are creating and studying ways to stimulate and satiate the multifaceted senses. This should be a very engaging, immersive series.”
All events are free for current RMCAD students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The general public may purchase tickets at vasd.rmcad.edu for $10 per lecture or $25 for a fall series pass. Students from other institutions are eligible for student pricing ($5 per lecture or $12 for the fall series pass). The fall series pass is available through October 5, 2016. The full schedule, complete lecture descriptions, speaker biographies, and ticketing information can be found at www.vasd.rmcad.edu.

Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 6 p.m.
Magician and RMCAD alumnus Shawn Preston will playfully deceive the senses in a pre-lecture stage show followed by Wager’s lecture which asks: “what is the relationship between what comes in through your senses and what you perceive and feel emotionally?” Dr. Wager, Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of Colorado, Boulder and Director of the University’s Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience Lab (CANlab), will address this question through neuroscientific evidence as it connects to illusion and art.

INSTITUTE FOR NEW FEELING
Thursday, November 3, 2016, at 6 p.m.
This three-person art collective will share how collaboration fosters the exploration of new ways of feeling, and ways of feeling new.
