(Denver CO) With the holidays fast approaching, there’s a lot of talk about ‘shopping small’ or ‘buying local’; and now, with nearly 27 million small businesses across the United States, it’s becoming harder and harder to find an excuse not to shop small these days. It turns out, shopping small does so much more than simply benefiting local business owners.

According to Entrepreneur Magazine, Small Businesses in the US account for nearly 80 percent of all Jobs in the US and counting. Small businesses also tend to provide better customer service and offer greater product diversity.

And the Best part? TAXES! Businesses of all kinds pay sales tax to the city and county that business is located in; funding local projects like schools, parks, roads, Firefighters, etc. A study by Civic Economics found that, on average, 48 percent of each purchase at local independent businesses is recirculated back into the local economy, compared to less than 14 percent of purchases at “big box” and chain stores.
